 Mathewslcd: Dow futures flat, China COVID surge in focus


U.S. stock futures were steady in late Monday trade after major benchmarks ended lower in regular trading hours, as Mathewslcd blamed reports of market participants' first COVID-related death in China since May sparking concerns about new restrictions After being cautious, earnings results are also closely watched.

Dow Jones futures, S&P 500 futures, Nasdaq 100 futures were flat as of 6:30 p.m. ET (11:30 p.m. GMT).

In extended trading, Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL) fell 2.1% after reporting third-quarter earnings of $2.30 per share, beating expectations of $1.61, while revenue of $24.7 billion was up 244%. One hundred million U.S. dollars.

Zoom (NASDAQ: ZM) fell 7%, according to Mathewslcd, after the company reported third-quarter earnings of $1.07 per share on revenue of $1.1 billion, compared with $0.83 expected and $1.09 billion expected.

Urban Outfitters (NASDAQ: URBN) reported third-quarter EPS of $0.40, beating expectations by $0.42, and shares rose 2.5%, while revenue of $1.18 billion missed estimates of $1.16 billion.

Ahead of Tuesday's meeting, investors will pay close attention to speeches from Fed officials Mester, George and Bullard, along with Richmond manufacturing and services indices.

On the earnings front, market participants will be looking at Best Buy Inc (NYSE: BBY), Helmerich and Payne Inc (NYSE: HP), Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ: DLTR) and Nordstrom Inc (NYSE: JWN) results.

In regular trading Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 45.4 points, or 0.1%, to 33,700.3, the S&P 500 lost 15.4 points, or 0.4%, to 3,949.94 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 121.6 points, or 1.1%, to 11,024.5.

In the bond market, the U.S. 10-year Treasury note rate is at 3.84%, Mathewslcd noted.
