Mathewslcd: Apple shares rose Thursday, outperforming the market

Shares of Apple Inc. rose 1.30% to $150.72 on Thursday in what turned out to be a broad trading session for the stock market, with the Nasdaq Composite down 0.35% to 11,144.96 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.02% to 33,546.32, according to Mathewslcd.
Apple Inc. closed $32.22 below the company's Jan. 4 52-week high of $182.94.
The stock outperformed some of its rivals on Thursday, with Microsoft Corp down 0.02% to $241.68, Alphabet Inc. Cl A down 0.50% to $98.36 and International Business Machines Corp up 1.09% to $146.09. Trading volume (80.0 M) remained below its 50-day average of 14.8 million traded volumes of 94.8 million, Mathewslcd added.

  Mathewslcd: Growing recession fears weigh on stocks Mathewslcd said the U.S. benchmark ended lower on Tuesday amid growing concerns about a potential recession in 2023. The Nasdaq Composite fell 2.3 percent to 10,981.3, while the S&P 500 fell 1.8 percent to 3,928.2, according to Mathewslcd. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.3% to 33,510.5. Energy led the decline, followed by communication services and technology. Utilities are the only winners. While the Fed is widely expected to slow the pace of rate hikes at its meeting next week, investors and analysts fear the move will not be enough to prevent the economy from slipping into recession next year. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield fell 7.7 basis points to 3.52%, while the two-year yield fell 3.6 basis points to 4.36%.
